Rock the Boat

I’ve been extremely busy with my career the last few weeks; meeting with clients, travelling loads and hand delivering gifts and packages.  It’s been such an amazing and productive month that said when the weekend rolls around I like to reward myself with gifts and drinks!

Luckily, this is my last work day this week. Tomorrow I’m heading to the Muskokas far away from my hectic lifestyle. I’ve been blueprinting the getaway for days. I’m going to bask in the glow of the long holiday weekend, I might even pull a Tom Hanks in Cast Away and float a dingy out to the middle of the lake, a composed solo mission. Brilliant.  Of course the only 4 lifelines I’ll require on my dingy adventure are Sir Pinot Grigio, Miss V’s chip, Mr. big a*s floppy hat and some quality reading material…Vogue.

So I’m taking tomorrow and the weekend offline and I’m giddy as hell about it. Have a glorious weekend and don’t be jelly. My life is rarely this carefree.

Tips for the perfect long weekend holiday:

  • Drink your signature cocktail all weekend – you deserve it!
  • Dress in breezy maxi dresses, anything sheer and havaianas.
  • Go for a natural look, wash hair, tie it in a bun then let it dry naturally – your waves will be killer – thanks Karen for that tip.
  • Create a Long Weekend menu and try a recipe using fresh produce from your local market – I’ll be chefing up cold eggplant stacks drizzled with olive oil and balsamic with fresh basil and love.
  • Enjoy an ice cream in a classic cone.
  • Head north, where the air is cleaner and the stars shine brighter
  • shut down your laptop, even if you stay in the city turn it off – explore your own surroundings and act like a tourist while you’re at it!
  • Own being lazy – if you have a DIY project or gardens you want to work on do it at a slow pace. And if you get distracted by cocktails or friends, who cares enjoy it.
  • Drink your signature cocktail..

Happy long weekend everyone!

This is what my car looked like this week…

This is me tomorrow…

This is what I will be looking at…

I will drown in this before I drown in the lake…

Rock the boat a little!

Minka on my mind

How gorgeous does Minka Kelly look, well, everywhere.  The Friday Night Lights stunner gifts a sexy meets simple look that has me bunny earing fashion mags and aching to copy cat her style.

She makes me want to undergo rhinoplasty, color my hair chestnut-brown and walk around my house in lingerie, I’m sure Mike wouldn’t mind?….

I’m fishtail braiding my hair today…. thank’s to my girl Minka.

Happy Hump day!

Hippy Daze

I made it back from our weekend away, barely.  It was a blast, but I’m paying for it now. When we arrived home I decided to turn my house into a rehab facility for food and cocktailing.  Mike and I checked in this morning .  Salad, fresh fruit, fish and San Pellegrino are on the menu for as long as we can take it.

Me donning the boho outfit I daydreamed of for the outdoor music fest was a flop – the rain and 17 degree weather made it hopeless for me to wrap myself in something sheer. I went for my skinnies, a casual tailored military jacket, House of Harlow moccasins  and Mountain Co-op rain poncho (hot!) – thanks Janet!

Our crew of 30 something 905 and 705’ers was the perfect blend for amusement and silliness. So much so that the muddy terrain,  beer tent line ups, rain and cold didn’t drive anyone to bitch?  Not even the 905 dames!   A few notes: Urban Outfitters threw up on 92 percent of the population; mosh pits are not a thing of the past; smoking weed in mosh pits is not a thing of the past; luke warm beer really isn’t so bad; I own 2 pairs of tall classic Hunter Boots and I neglected to wear either; the Hip are talented individuals.

Still rather concerned that I put down 2 poutines and a 24 in 24?  Hideous. I’m out. Tired. Borderline delusional, I feel like I’m in a hippy daze.

I have my Monday evening all planned out, it looks something like this…

Happy Monday

‘Packing Light’

This evening we are setting off for a weekend away, a large group of us are heading to a waterfront music festival Saturday afternoon than finishing the evening fire side at my sisters compound.  I plan to relax, get a little silly and end my weeklong bout of sobriety (In fact I think I just did writing this post). I like to detox pre and post mini vacations!

I’m not a campy, outdoor festival kinda gal (please refer to Glamping post)- however I love my friends and family and I understand sometimes you just gots to take one for the team (as they must when I army them to read my blog). I’m sure it will be a blast and a thorough abuse of malted barley.

I started packing early this week because I’m an extreme Type A. Obviously, I need to pare down the number of sandals I need, throw in a boho dress or two so I don’t look out-of-place, and add some other necessary accessories.

I daydreamed of a festival look that is simultaneously fresh and functional but a little hippy chick…here’s what inspired my packing:

Fantastic use of a scarf

Cute. cute. cute – with jean shorts?

I usually like to dance on tables – but after a bus ride, 9h in the sun and plenty of beer you may just  find me dancing on the ground?

I’m feelin this?

I love costume parties…for me Saturday will be just another day to wear something fun and non – workie (yup that’s a made up term)!

I’m off, I have to go downsize my weekend bag, apparently I’m not allowed to bring a suitcase? I still haven’t mastered ‘packing light’?

Happy Friday

Bags with Benefits

MY BF CHANTELLE (the one that resembles Kate Hudson) AND I SET OFF FOR A DAY TRIP UP NORTH…We headed to her family getaway spot and passed the afternoon embracing cottage life. We took in the fresh summer air, sat on the deck, walked along the beach and dipped our feet in the lake water.  It was bliss.

While at the beach we ran into a group of preadult beauties soaking up the rays on their nautical towels.  Your typical 17 somethings – giggly, skinny and full of attitude.  I took notice of their ghetto- blaster -looking- retro- beach bag that was playing tunes and chilling their redbull/vodkas  pepsi, I thought this gadget is brilliant.  I went over to the group and politely enquired about where the bag was from and who made it, one girl replied with a blank stare then answered NY?  Well thanks tips – she was a fruitless tit so I decided when I got home I’d do the research myself.

On my exploration I discovered an entire website on bags with benefits – wine bags, beer bags, ghetto totes, modern iPod clutches, they all had a secondary purpose.  I love the concept of having a beach bag that plays tunes, keeps my wine chilled, is waterproof and hosts a seperate chamber for my beach reads, Vogue and InStyle, that’s damage control.

You will catch site of me and my girls at the beach this summer, strutting our stuff. I’ll have my ghetto tote jacked up on my shoulder loaded with beach tunes and Pinot grigio. Maybe we’ll roller skate?

(our as*ses have way more girth then these)

It’s almost Friday….

Cheap Thrills

I’m known to have an expensive palate, maybe it’s the power to afford things that cost more or maybe I’m just pompous?  Like I’ve told you in previous posts, beauty products are a vice and although trying new beauty brands can be fun, its expensive. Lately I’ve arrived at few methods that have seriously cut my beauty budget in half, saving some bucks so I can capitalize that money elsewhere –  Home decor? shoes? Micheal Kors oversized tortoise watch?

I’ve found a few cheap thrills that have made their way into my vanity and will dwell top shelf until I make my millions and only lather my face with Creme de la Mar..(if you don’t know what this is I suggest you do your research)

Here are my recommendations:

1. Olay Skin Smoothing Wash– removes deep down dirty stuff from your pores, exfoliates and smooths out skin texture in just a few uses, seriously amazing stuff.

2. C.O & Bigelow My Favorite Lip Balm – glorious everyday Lip Balm avec nourishing shea butter, sweet almond oil and wheat germ to condition and soothe lips in need of care. Easy to wear under or over lip color. Great everyday balm.

3. Cover Girl Trueblend Mineral Blush – I know we all love Nars orgasm, yet this gives you the same tone and it is a fraction of the price… and being mineral based it’s better for your skin.

4. Nivea Goodbye Cellulite – bite into a few apples a day, drink your H2O and lather on this miracle worker – it’s the tri – fecta for cellulite.  The L-Carnitine visibly reduces the appearance of unwanted dimples. And being a winner for the best cellulite treatment at the Elle Grand Prix Beauty awards means something!

5. Wella Care and Styling Brilliance Shampoo – this is gold for my tresses. First, the shampoo has the best scent of any shampoo I’ve tested in years. It left my bathroom and hair smelling divine all day. More importantly, my hair was brilliant and full of body. You can buy this at your local Wella Professional Salon.

So there you have it, my picks under $20 that are super amazing products and have recieved amazing beauty reviews from real users, like moi!

What are some of your beauty budget favs?

Mojitos and Mondays

This weekend we passed our Saturday at a backyard pool party and bbq, which was graciously hosted at our friends home in a quaint town 20 minutes from where we live — thanks Seyward and Jay! We chilled poolside, got over served on mojitos (thanks again Jay), swined out on lime cupcakes, had a drunken late night dip and partied like sorority girls until dawn. I’d say it was a success!

Sunday was a whole new day, our alfresco affair was fantastic, only I was suffering from a cuban highball comma and found myself cursing the sun wishing I was wrapped in my duvet.  I’m positive I wasn’t the greatest company, but I aspired to be?

Today was back to reality.  Work, gym, laundry, cook, then more work.  I am trying to be more organized so I have devised a “Own my life” list of things I will own throughout the work week.  Here’s my first:

  1. Sugar free – I am giving up sugar for the week, I was on sweet overdrive on the weekend – I’m owning my cravings
  2. Sobriety – I’m having a dry week, I am using the warm weather as an excuse to cocktail every night, it’s criminal. I’m owning sobriety.
  3. Start my bubble chandelier – this requires a post of its own.
  4. Finish all my work for month’s end before month end – and work my little a*s off so I own my vacation.
  5. Buy myself a well deserved pair of shoes – it’s been a few weeks.

Today I was 85% on task for my list. And I was asked to do a very exciting review for a very exciting magazine! It’s been a good Monday. No prescription medication required.

Just one more hour….

Makes me giggle…but so true

Happy Monday

Alfresco style

It’s the weekend! Hang up your work week wardrobe and throw on something sheer and flowing.  The weather is going to be gorgeous so get outside and enjoy it!

I’m bringing the art of alfresco back – its economical, intimate and embraces the great outdoors.  I even found a vintage picnic basket quilted with red gingham interior.  It will be overflowing with fresh baguettes, ripe cheeses, stuffed olives, soprassata and a few bottles of vino.  I might even wrap some cantaloupe in prosciutto.  Yum.

Grad a sheet and take a seat…..

Wake me up on Sunday

This would be a perfect afternoon birthday venue

Lake side picnic? Yes please

This is what I am talking about…

Simple & Delicious

Sweet & Salty

I’m going to write my menu on my chalkboard and plan my picnic….

And to the rest of you – may you find your own indulgences this weekend!

Happy Friday

Let’s romp

You’d think with my line of work and lifestyle these days I’d have getting dressed in the am down to a science. Welllll… not so much. In fact, I’ve started resorting to safe pieces and recycled outfits (which isn’t a bad thing) I just  totally feel like I’m in a bit of a wardrobe slump.

I’m desperately trying to seek some fun pieces for the warm weather instead of working around the basics (which again, isn’t a bad thing).  I’m in need of some major inspiration, I started hunting through some of my magazines and peeking in shop windows, and I think I found just what I’ve been looking for…. The Romper.

I’m going to cheat on my closet basics, and dabble in a little romper action….

I’d cheat on my basics for this..

Micheal Kors knows how to romp!

The cozy romp

The silky romp..

Some romper do’s and don’ts:

  •  Use minimal accessories. I enjoy long necklaces with a stone on the bottom, a cuff bracelet, or a headband.
  • Pair it with basics you already own, blazers, solid cardi’s and denim jackets.
  • Proper footwear, flats, strappy sandles and wedges or heels – depending on the romper and forecast you can really mix it up

  • Keep the length in check, rompers that are too short are trashy and not fashionable.
  • Don’t choose a romper that feels uncomfortable, you’ll look awkward always trying to adjust ie. if it strapless or too short
  • If you pair it with heels make sure the romper is sophisticated enough, you don’t want to look like you just starred in a rap video.

Dip into some romper love this summer. I’m sure you’ll find the perfect style for any affair.

Shades of Glory: Ralph vs. Tory

This weekend I felt exhausted from a very long work week. Needless to say, I remained in sweats for almost the entire weekend. It felt fabulous. However, during a rainy day shopping trip with k-dog I came across some stunning Tory Burch and Ralph Lauren tortoise frames that made me smile, I’m still fantasizing over them..

As the sun remained unseen again this weekend I didn’t buy either, it seemed a needless thing to do – for now.  Conscious.  Practical.  So not me.  Consequently I was able to collect my thoughts and really think about my choice,  later this week I’ll go pick up my new shades.  If the sun decides to reveal itself again?

My sunny dilemma:

What’s your vote?

Three things can not be long hidden: the sun, the moon and the truth – Buddha

Truth is I’m going to be walking around with shades of glory this week, I will let you know which ones I choose..maybe even post a self port!

Happy Monday xo
