Butter and Ripe Lemons

Yellow.  It’s one color that can instantly put you in a great mood.  Beware, yellow isn’t for everyone,  if you can pull it off it is an unbelievble touch to your wardrobe, home decor and even make up.  Today I wore a cropped knit yellow sweater that I purchased on my latest trip to LA (its fabulous and simple), and every time I glanced in the mirror I thought I looked so fresh and bright.

My skin has olive undertones, this makes it easier for me to wear different shades of yellow.  If you’re wanting to try out a little butter or ripe lemons make sure to analyze your undertones.  Look at the veins on the inside of you wrist to determine whether your skin tone is warm or cool. If they appear greenish, your skin is warm; if they appear bluish, your skin is cool. Another easy method for figuring out your skin tone is going by your natural hair color; if it’s blue-black, ash or golden blond, your skin is usually cool. If your hair is deep brown, red, or strawberry blond, your skin is usually warm.

This will also help.  If you are very pale, find  bright or dark yellow pieces; if your skin is dark it will look better with a lighter shade of yellow.  As well a secret to carrying out yellow is bronzer, just a light dust will incorporate your yellow outfit to your skin.

And when it comes to home decor, whatever tickles you yellow will do! It’s fun and makes a great statement piece.

Colleague Love

Yesterday I gave you a little taste of my event filled weekend.  What I neglected to tell you is that I am suffering from a major cold and laryngitis (mike is in heaven, I can’t babble).  So no voice, body aches and chills are additional effects of the weekend.  I need to get over myself.  I was going to take a break from blogging as I’m not feeling up to doing anything, but its my outlet, my voice, the only way I can express anything!

I had such a fabulous weekend, regardless of the fact I knew my body was about to be occupied by some microorganism.  It was successful in all aspects, work, hotel, great fare, and last but defiantly most essential are the people I shared it with.  I have extraordinary co workers, and one in particular I have major colleague love for, Sara D.

Sara and I met 5 years ago at our corporate office, we sat in with each other for a few days of training and the rest is history.  We love our careers, we’re both passionate about fashion, have a fondness for shoes, make up, beauty products and have wonderful chats over prosecco and cheese.  We have colleague love.

This weekend was a classic chronicles of Sara and Jack, it went something like this:

  • Running around to finish last-minute event details
  • Lunch in Yorkville,
  • A quick run to Anthropologie, neither one of us bought anything?
  • Prosecco in Hotel room
  • ipod blasting with a JT and Robin Thick
  • Hotel dance party
  • Sharing the bathroom mirror for make up and hair
  • Heels on, out the doors looking stunning

Our moments together are always entertaining and refreshing, some border mischief!  Here are some past and present pictures of our shenanigans and style.

Pretty in the City….

March and April are always big months for work.  For the beauty and fashion industry it is always a busy time of year, we have plenty of social events, award shows and launches to take us right into summer.  And I get to be apart of all the glory!

This weekend I am heading to Toronto for a mini break.  Well technically not much of a break.  I’m only 30 min from home and I will be networking my little ass off the entire weekend,  a mini break just sounds better, right?  Seriously, work event, award show, after party and another work event, this causes me outfit anxiety. Every year, I face the same dilemma: what do I wear for each event, and how much skin can I show without baring too much in front of my coworkers?  Trashy is not my concern. You see it’s this, I like my stems, I like to show them off and cover up on top entirely.  It’s a staple of mine. But is too much leg  inappropriate?

When I shop for event dresses and outfits, they need to be work-party appropriate and stylish. I also seek to buy things that can be reworked and  re-worn plenty more times either to the office or on dinner dates with my man. I’m annoyingly practical.  This is only a recent revelation!

These are my outfit, hair and style inspirations for this weekend:

I am borderline obsessed with Blake Lively, this gossip girl likes to show her gams too.

Happy weekend everyone, I’m going to channel my red carpet moment tonight!

Let your hair down

It’s the season to lighten up the tresses. Whether it’s dramatic or mellow dramatic a change for Spring/Summer is a great way to brighten up your look.  Caution: this does not mean bleaching, stripes or trying to a DIY to achieve blonde from black, its subtle enhancing or brightening. Make sense? Nope? Stay with me.

It’s very simple hair science really.

  • if your dark dark dont try to be blonde
  • if your blonde you go blonder and brighter
  • if your a redhead you go copper or strawberry
  • if your light brown you go a shade lighter
  • if your med brown you can brighten with very subtle tones

There are many ways to change your hair without really damaging it or looking like you are someone you’re not. I gag when I see deep brunettes try to highlight their entire head, it looks striped and orange, it’s just not in the pigment to do this sort of thing.  Unless of course you’re a star, and you need to change it for a role. One day my friends, one day!  In real life stay true to what looks best on you.

Many of you know your stylist well, and conversely, they should know you.  When it’s time to lighten up or change hair tone be sure you talk it out with your stylist, ask for a consult, as well take in pictures.  As I always say, take your vision and inspiration you gather from around you then make it work for you.

I will be attending a beauty event in Toronto this weekend, followed by an award show, and I need major SOS on my locks.  My hair hasn’t been colored in months.  I was enjoying the Whitney Port meets Jaclyn Perusich grown out look, but I’m over it.  I will be having my hair altered before Saturday by my fabulous Wella artist, still irresolute exactly of what I want.  I’m seeking inspiration,  and if anyone has any pictures or ideas send them my way!

Must have Mondays…

With one almost-70-degree day under our belts, spring is almost at our fingertips, and I think it was official March 20! There is limitless amounts of inspiration everywhere, and getting your beauty and style routine in order is a must.  So I bring you Must have Mondays! Your nails, skin, style and hair all need special attention to reveal that pretty spring-to-summer glow that can shed a very long winter in a flash. Here are my current Must haves for spring….

  • a good trim – prepping for summer hair is essential.  No one wants split ends transitioning into summer hair.  Our tresses tend to get lighter in the warmer months, which can lead to dry and damaged locks.  Keep it trimmed, and fit a hair mask into your routine at least once a weeks.

Just Dance

I woke up this morning with an abundant amount of energy. I love mornings like this, they emit productiveness. I got up, kissed my sweet man on the forehead, brewed some dark roast coffee, (as if I needed more voltage) turned on my ipod and jumped in the shower.

Time was on my side this am, so I threw on a Wella Brilliance hair treatment knowing it would make my hair look fabulous for my friday meeting. To gain full victory of the mask I had to let it sit for 2-3 minutes, I couldn’t stand still for that long? what could I do? Squats..I did squats in the shower.  Ambitious right.  I know!

When I got out I dried off and poured myself a cup of java, and then magic happened, I heard JLo’s new tune” Get on the Floor”. The rhythm really got to me,  I danced my morning away. I channeled Demi Moore avec Striptease, and shook my little booty while I applied my Laura Mercier 3 part beauty routine and blew my lush locks. It was magnificent.

The dance vibes carried out like Timberland and JT right into my commute to TO. I look better, I feel fantastic and this was all made possible by dancing. Now here’s where it becomes relevant to beauty -Dancing releases endorphins and produces oxygen rich blood helping reduce stress and tension. Beyond that it also gives your skin a beautiful glow and makes you feel better. It’s a pre botox fix! Like Lady Gaga said “just dance”!

Happy weekend everyone, I’m off to little mexico with my friends for the evening. On the agenda: social time, mexican fare. Diet smiet….I will be indulging in major margaritas.

Dance, Dance….

I’m totally gripped on dressing my head right now, never mind the snug knits or military hats of the winter months,  I shed those weeks ago,  I’m talking headscarves, turbans and wide headbands.

Spring is virtually almost here..I can smell it. It smells like mud, plus I’m getting lots of use of my original Hunter Boots, this means style is springing forward!

Back to head dressing. I like my hair. I take somewhat good care of it,  but lately I find myself too busy.  Between the gym, my career, the renovations and blogging I simply don’t have the time to flat-iron or barrel curl it like I used to.  Which brings me to dressing my head.  The  idea of stepping up an outfit with accessories and head dresses makes me giddy. It’s a great way to budget, and explore different avenues of style without out actually blowing a pot hole in your handbag (you’re welcome, husbands, boyfriends, finances, parents).  Like, H&M, they have great accessories and Forever21, well that’s just a given, you can walk out of that place with a boat load of accessories for under 30 bucks.

Hand bands, scarves and turbans are great for a prompt current looks.  For those “I don’t want to wash my hair days” or if your just kickin it with your friends, hubby or kids…why not look fabulous?

Cocktail Shopping

This past weekend I was slightly owned by a red wine coma.  I attended LEMONBERRYS spring 2011 fashion show,  a local NY inspired fashion boutique in my area.  At the amazing venue, I might have slightly taken the lead of the comp red vino they were serving up.   My girlfriends and I sat front row,  drooled over the flawless models, pleasurable fashion and spring patterns while gullpeding sipping our Malbec.  It was ideal.

As the evening rolled out we sipped a little more, socialized and then got to take advantage of the featured collection at a discounted price!  Having red wine in my veins made the temptation to shop very fierce.  Most woman complain of overeating when they are in cocktail mode, caloric intake goes to unusual heights.  For me, I want to shop…. forget food.  I am in my glory if I can cocktail and shop in one place!

I recently did a mini photo shoot for Lemonberry that was featured in a local magazine, so advantageously for me (and my partner) I had a gift certificate to partake in a little cocktail shopping.

Here is what you get when you mix Malbec with shopping:
